I was driving near Arch, N.M., at dusk one summer day and noticed that a farmer was burning the wheat stubble in one of his fields. When I saw some horses in a neighboring pasture, I set up this shot on my tripod. I received a second-place award from the New Mexico Press Association, which was kind of a big deal to me at the time. I was 22 and just developing a love for photography. (1984)
